The pandemic may be here, but that doesn't mean we can't still have fun safely! Help out your favourite Launceston central city businesses this summer and have a great time doing it
It's been a tough couple of years for everyone when it comes to COVID. From lockdowns and restrictions, to no dancing in bars, to not being able to see loved ones or even being sick personally; no one has escaped the pandemic unscathed.
Some of the hardest hit by all of this have been our beloved local small businesses- and while support from the community has been wholehearted and immense, the end still isn't quite in sight. Luckily, helping out your favourite café, restaurant or shop can also make for a fantastic day out or night in.
Remember when you're out and about in the city: wear your mask while indoors, sanitise or wash your hands frequently, keep your social distance, and use the Check In TAS app!
Most places in Launceston do take away in some form, but some have taken the concept to a new level with picnic boxes, pre-ordered dinners or platters and even home delivery. Take your food home or take it to the park!
This isn't an exhaustive list, so if you don't see your favourite place to eat here then give them a call and see what's on offer.
Many local businesses now have online stores up and running. Making use of these to plan your shopping can help you minimise your time in store, and some even offer click and collect.
There are many more stores open for business that don't have a strong online presence- make sure to visit them too!
Grab a book, take a walk, make your own fun!
Settle in for the evening with the streaming service of your choice (or a movie rented from the Library) and a bucket of home delivered cinema popcorn from Village Cinemas! All the benefits of going to the movies with none of the drawbacks.
There's a wonderful app called Cya that hosts curated educational tours of cities all around the country- and there's 2 available for Launceston! These walking tours are a great way to spend an afternoon, and there are plenty of cafes to stop at between locations.
Tea parties don't have to stop as you get older- pick up some fantastic curated blends from Cocoon Living Tea, The Dragonfly Tea Atelier or Tisane Tea Room (and maybe a nice tea set) to host a relaxing party for some friends or just for you!
Lots of venues around the city have spaces available for hire that are COVID-friendly, and this is a great way to celebrate while keeping contact with others to a minimum.
Venues with spaces for private bookings include the Kingsway Bar, Quixotic Books, The Plough Inn and Stelo at Pierre's- inquire with your favourite bar or restaurant to see if they can supply a room for your gathering!
